Fall 2018 American Red Cross Safety Classes

American Red Cross Lifeguarding

This course is designed to teach skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants must successfully pass a precourse swim exam, skills check, and written exams to obtain certification (Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR for Professional Rescuer, current for 2 years). Participants MUST attend all class dates of a session. 

Prerequisites

  • 300-yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
  • Tread water using legs only for 2 minutes without support or stopping
  • Within 1 minute and 40 seconds, swim 20 yards, surface dive to 7 - 10 feet and retrieve a 10lb brick. Return to surface and swim back to starting point with both hands holding brick and keeping face at the surface. Exit the water without using ladder or steps.

  • Sunday, 9/23; 12 - 8pm
  • Sunday, 9/30; 12 - 8pm
  • Monday, 10/1; 5 - 9 pm

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Review

Lifeguarding review classes are designed to help you update your skills while also extending your certification for another two years. The Red Cross also offers review courses, for those whose certification is still valid (or within 30 days of expiring) while allowing you to continue to work without a lapse in verification.

Prerequisites

CPR/AED/First Aid for Professional Rescuer (CPRO Full)

The American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers & Health Care Providers course is designed to teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers and health care providers) the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies until more advanced medical personnel take over. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest.

  • September 8, 10am - 5pm
  • October 20, 10am - 5pm
  • November 3, 10am - 5pm

Course Price: $65 rec sport student staff - $75 student - $85 faculty/staff/dependent/alumni - $95 community

 

Review: CPR/AED/First Aid for Professional Rescuers (CPRO Review)

The review course provides instruction for those who have a current or recently expired certification. Instruction is provided as a review before participants are tested. To be eligible to participate in a review course, a participant must possess a certificate in the same course that is current or expired for no more than 30 days. Upon successful completion of the review course, the participant receives a certificate that is valid for 2 years from date of completion of the review course.

  • September 5, 10am - 5pm
  • October 21, 10am - 5pm
  • November 4, 10am - 5pm

Course Price: $50 rec sport student staff - $60 student/faculty/staff/dependent - $70 alumni - $80 community

 

Challenge: CPR/AED/First Aid for Professional Rescuer (CPRO Challenge)

The Challenge course provides a skills test and test out option for those who have a current or recently expired (<30 days) certification. Upon successful completion of the review course, the participant receives a certificate that is valid for 2 years from date of completion of the review course

Course Dates: ​(Saturdays, last hour of the CPRO Full Class)

  • October 20, 4 - 5pm
  • November 3, 4 - 5pm

Course Price:  $50 Student - $60 Faculty/Staff/Dependent - $70 Community

 

Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED with First Aid (Lay Responder)

This course provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies, perform CPR and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illness until advanced medical personnel arrive. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive American Red Cross certifications in Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid, valid for two years.

  • August 28; 5 - 10 pm
  • September 19; 5 10 pm
  • October 9; 5 - 10 pm
  • November 14; 5 - 10 pm

Course Price:  $65 student/faculty/staff/dependent - $75 alumni - $85 community

Pre-registration is required for all classes and closes 3 business days before the class is scheduled to begin.   

To receive the lower prices offered for Student, Faculty/Staff, or Alumni – the participant must hold a current Ramsey membership at time of registration and through the duration of the program being offered. If a participant does not have a current membership, s/he may still register at the community/non-member price
