General Guidelines for all Patrons

  • Before entering the Ramsey Student Center, Pound Hall, or participating in a Rec Sports program, use the DawgCheck tool to verify that you have not experienced symptoms of COVID-19. 
  • The DawgCheck tool can be accessed here: https://dawgcheck.uga.edu/
  • These basic principles of self-monitoring are expected of all individuals prior to entering any Rec Sports facility. 
    • In the past 14 days, you have had no known close contact with someone that has a confirmed case of COVID-19
    • In the past 48 hours, you have not experienced any COVID-19 symptoms as listed at www.cdc.gov 
    • Using a thermometer, you do not have a reading of 100.4˚ or greater
  • By entering any Rec Sports facility, you acknowledge that you are not aware that you have signs and/or symptoms of COVID-19.
  • The best resource for ongoing campus-wide updates is https://www.uga.edu/coronavirus/info.php. UGA is updating this site often with new information.

  • As of July 15, 2020, the University of Georgia—along with all University System of Georgia (USG) institutions—will require all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to wear an appropriate face covering while inside campus facilities/buildings and in outdoor campus areas where six feet social distancing may not always be possible. 
  • Since the Ramsey Student Center is a high traffic facility in which people are moving, working out, etc., and social distancing is not always possible, an appropriate face covering is required at all times in Rec Sports facilities unless you are actively participating in a fitness class, on a piece of cardio equipment, or swimming in the natatorium.
    • Cardio equipment has been spread out to accommodate for proper social distancing.
    • Cardio equipment consists of ellipticals, treadmills, stationary bike, etc.
    • Fitness classes will be set up with at least six feet distance between participants. 
  • The health and wellbeing of all patrons remains our top priority. We will continue to monitor and adhere to all safety and social distancing guidelines provided by university and state health officials. Programs and events will only be conducted if deemed safe to do so by officials. We will continue to communicate any program changes or cancellations due to COVID-19.
  • All patrons are expected to follow current safety and social distancing guidelines.
  • UGA Students: Memberships for current students who have been assessed the Spring 2021 Student Recreation Fee of $15.00 on their Athena account will begin on January 7, 2021. For more information about the Student Recreation Fee, please visit the Bursar’s office website.

Facility Modifications

Ramsey Student Center

  • Monday – Friday: 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: Noon – 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Ramsey Members under the age of 18 have access during all weekend hours (from Fri at 5 p.m. through Sun at 9 p.m.) when directly supervised at all times by member parent/guardian.  Non-UGA Student Ramsey Members between the ages of 16 and 18 accompanied by member parent/guardian are able to access Strength & Conditioning Rooms during weekend hours.  

The entire Recreational Sports Complex is closed from 5 p.m. on Friday until 3 p.m. on Sunday during every home football game weekend including G-Day.

Pound Hall

  • Monday – Friday: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: closed
  • Wheeler Gym will be closed
  • Lap Swim: To comply with distancing and safety guidelines, patrons will be asked to swim one person to a lane. Out of courtesy, please limit your swim time to 1 hour. There will be a designated waiting area for swimmers who are waiting for an open lane. Look for the red paw print decals along the permanent benches in the natatorium. Please socially distance while waiting on deck, and wear an appropriate face covering
  • Swim lessons: We will not be accepting swim lesson registrations from non-members outside of Ramsey. All students/faculty/staff/alumni are still welcome to participate in our swim lesson programs.  **Our Learn To Swim program will operate as normal for current members. Face coverings will not be required while in the water, however; we ask that you self- screen according to the guidelines listed above before entering the facility. 
  • Locker Rooms: Showers remain closed at this time. However, locker rooms are open for changing clothes, restroom, etc. 
  • A total of five climbers are allowed in the indoor climbing wall area at one time.
  • Climbers may reserve a time to climb through IM Leagues. Click here to login with your UGA Login or set up your IM Leagues account with your UGA Login. Once you have signed in with your UGA Login, select climbing wall and the date you want to climb. You will be able to reserve an available one hour time slot. If spots are available, walk-ins will be accepted.
  • Face coverings must be worn while climbing. 
  • To maintain social distancing, climbers may not climb with a belaying partner and must use established auto-belay stations.
  • The bouldering courtyard will be open at designated times and social distancing must be maintained. 
  • If a climber leaves the climbing wall area, they must wash hands or use hand sanitizer before re-entering the climbing area.
  • Climbers are encouraged to bring their own shoes and harnesses as only a limited number will be available for check out.
  • Shoes will be disinfected after use and harnesses will be isolated for 72 hours after use.
  • Equipment checkout will not be available. Patrons will be allowed to bring their own equipment for personal use as long as it is in proper working conditions and used in a safe manner. 
  • Guest passes will not be available for access to Rec Sports facilities. 
  • Patrons will have access to the indoor track but will need to maintain proper social distance and wear an appropriate face covering
  • Showers remain closed as of January 7, 2021. Towel service is also not offered during this time. 
  • Locker rooms are able to be used for changing clothes and utilizing a locker if you have a current locker membership.
  • If you would like to rent a locker, please visit the Membership Services desk located in room 201. You may also call our office at 706-542-5060.
  • When in the locker rooms, patrons are responsbile for following current guidelines with respect to face coverings, social distancing, and sanitizing their locker and area they utilize. 
  • Restrooms and sinks will be open but will require social distancing.
  • Capacity limits for the locker rooms:
    • Women: 39
    • Men: 42
    • Pound Hall-Women: 5
    • Pound Hall-Men: 7
  • Day lockers located in hallways throughout the building will be available.
  • Due to the need for social distancing, some activities have been suspended. These activities include basketball and soccer.  These changes will be reevaluated when social distancing guidelines change. We understand that some of our members will greatly miss these outlets but hope some of the other options for being active will meet your needs.
  • Racquetball: only one person will be allowed in a racquetball/squash court at a time.
  • Badminton/Pickleball: doubles play will not be allowed. Singles play only. 
  •  Outdoor equipment is available for rent by appointment and curbside pickup on Thursdays from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (not available holidays or during special events).
  • Outdoor equipment can be returned curbside on Mondays from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • The curbside location is in lot E09 by the state vehicle parking spaces when you first enter the lot.
  • For pickups or returns, when you arrive, call the Outdoor Recreation Center at 706-542-4677.
  • If you are renting, the staff member will check out the gear to you and take your credit card information over the phone.  They will then bring the gear out along with the credit card receipt and rental paperwork for signature.

  • If you are renting a tent, please allow 10 minutes to set up the tent to understand proper set up and familiarize yourself with all components. 
  • After equipment is returned it will be cleaned and disinfected or cleaned and isolated for 72 hours for those items that can be damaged by chemicals i.e. tents and paddling gear.
  • To foster proper social distancing, we have spread out our weight and cardio equipment throughout the building and all pieces are at a minimum of six feet apart. 
  • Patrons are asked to use the sanitizing wipes in the facility to wipe down equipment before and after use. 

Program Modifications

  • ​The group contact should coordinate and collect the waivers before the event.
  • Participants should be wearing appropriate face coverings upon exiting vehicles.
  • Participants need to bring their own water bottle and wear closed-toe shoes.
  • Participants should follow UGA’s guidelines on self-monitoring before attending the program.
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available, and participants are encouraged to use hand sanitizer during the program.
  • Groups will be split into smaller groups with their own facilitator, activity area, and props.
  • If participants are handling props, they will each have their own.
  • Disinfectant will be available during programming if needed for any props. 
  • Participants are expected to maintain social distancing during the program.  Social distancing markers will be provided. 
  • If the program includes the individual high ropes events, gear will be disinfected or isolated for 72 hours after use.
  • Current guidelines do not allow student organizations to travel in or out of state for any club related activities. 
  • Due to current guidelines, we are unable to host games or scrimmages.
  • All coaches must adhere to current safety guidelines set forth by the university (https://coronavirus.uga.edu/). 
  • All participants are strongly encouraged to self-screen with the Dawg Check app prior to checking in with Competitive Sports staff. 
  • An appropriate face covering is required when club members are not able to maintain safe social distance (6-10 ft.).
  • Club meetings and training should be conducted in a virtual format. 
  • A current waiver, to be completed at the Involvement Network, is required for all individuals.  
  • What to bring to class:
    • Bring a towel if needed, but be mindful about where you put it, especially if you wipe your face with it. Bring enough water that will last you through the workout.  Bags and other personal belongings will not be permitted in studio spaces.   • Before class:
    • Identify which class you plan to attend and plan accordingly. Be sure to arrive early as spots are limited. Put on an appropriate face covering before entering the Ramsey Center. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water before class. If you are unable to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer. There will be hand sanitizer dispensers in each studio.
    • Check-in for class with the fitness monitor at the appropriate studio doors. Maintain social distancing by keeping at least 6 to 10 feet apart while you check in and wait to enter class.
    • Enter class through the marked entry doors only. Select a marked station with appropriate equipment. There will be clear station markers on the floor or equipment already setup for you (indicated by bikes for cycling classes, mats for yoga, etc.). Please stay at your station for the duration of class. 
  • During class:
    • Your instructor will give you a brief overview of social distancing guidelines at the beginning of the class.
    • You do not have to wear a face covering for the duration of the class.
    • Maintain 6 to 10 feet of social distancing during class.
    • Notify your instructor or fitness monitor if you need assistance. 
  • After class:
    • Please leave all equipment at your station. Ramsey staff will clean/sanitize and put equipment away.
    • Please put your face covering back on. 
    • Exit class out the marked exit doors only.
    • Wash your hands following class.

Before class:
Identify which class you plan to attend and register up to 10 days prior to the class. You can cancel your registration up to 10 days prior to the class start date. Be sure to login up to 15 minutes early to check in receive any special instructions from the instructor. 

During class:
Your instructor will give you a brief overview of the class. Please mute yourself so all participants can hear the instructor during class. If possible, leave your camera on so the instructor can provide feedback as necessary. Notify your instructor or fitness monitor if you need assistance.

  • Due to social distancing and health guidelines, most team sports will not be available during the spring 2021 term. Please see the intramural sports website for more information about sports that will be available for spring 2021.
  • A Play Pass is still required to participate. Reduced Play Pass cost is $15.
  • All participants are strongly encouraged to self-screen with the Dawg Check app prior to checking in with Competitive Sports staff.
  • All participants are strongly encouraged to wash their hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds prior to checking in with Competitive Sports staff.
  • All participants are required to wear an appropriate face covering.
  • All of our trips will be “meet up” style day trips during the Spring 2021 semester.
  • All pre-trip meetings will be held 6pm on the Monday before the trip at the Lake Herrick Pavilion.
  • Appropriate face coverings must be worn and social distancing maintained during pre-trip meetings.
  • On the morning of their trip, participants should be wearing masks and maintain social distancing when they arrive in the lot E09 to meet with their trip leaders.
  • Participants need to bring their own water bottle, meals, and snacks on trips.
  • Hand washing/sanitizing resources will be available, and participants are encouraged to use hand sanitizer during the program.
  • Each trip participant will be assigned their own gear from the Outdoor Recreation Center if needed.
  • Trips are designed to allow trip participants to maintain social distancing during the trip. Trip participants should listen closely to the trip leaders for safety guidance throughout the duration for the trip.

  • Clinics will be held outside when possible. Indoor clinics will be held in spaces where social distancing can be maintained and room capacity is not exceeded.
  • Hand washing/sanitizing resources will be available, and participants are encouraged to use hand sanitizer during the program.
  • Clinics are designed to allow participants to maintain social distancing.
  • Clinic participants should follow trip leaders’ safety guidance throughout the duration of the program.
  • Appropriate face coverings should be worn for the entirety of the clinic, unless otherwise permitted.
  • Participants should follow UGA’s guidelines on self-monitoring before attending the program. You may cancel your registration any time before the program by emailing dave.rector@uga.edu for a refund (minus a $15 processing fee).
  • What to bring to your session:
    • Bring a towel if needed, but be mindful about where you put it, especially if you wipe your face with it.
    • Bring enough water that will last you through the workout.
    • Bags and other personal belongings will not be permitted in the Functional Training Room.
    • Bring an appropriate face covering to wear during your training session.
       
  • Before your session:
    • Schedule training times with your personal trainer prior to your first meeting.
    • Put on an appropriate face covering before entering the Ramsey Student Center.
    • Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water before your training session. If you are unable to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer. There will be hand sanitizer dispensers in the Functional Training Room.
    • Check-in for your session with your trainer at the Functional Training Room doors.
    • Maintain social distancing by keeping at least 6 to 10 feet apart.
       
  • During your session:
    • Your personal trainer will give you a brief overview of social distancing guidelines at the beginning of your training session.
    • Wear an appropriate face covering throughout the duration of your training session.
    • Maintain 6 to 10 feet of social distancing during your training session. Spotting will not be available.
       
  • After your session:
    • Sanitize and clean all equipment (including storage cubbies in FTR) used during your training session.
    • Wash your hands following your training session.
